Spring 2007 and our first non-native flower!
Major changes took place in 2007. The month of May was our first chance to spend time on our property and it was spent cleaning up from the construction of the previous year. The excavator had left logs strewn about our chosen mill site location behind the garage. So.....It was back to work as we piled and moved brush to a burn pile in the meadow below the cabin and decked the logs.
In June our Wood Mizer mill arrived but as excited as we were to make boards it was to remain in our pickup while we finished clearing the millsite.
Meanwhile, Jeff and I got involved in a major moving project!!!
Over the winter, we had talked about expanding our cabin. If we were to live on the property fulltime we would need more space. So.....before we had even finished the bedroom addition we decided to move it and the old cabin, pour a foundation for a larger cabin and put the addition and old cabin back on the foundation. You might wonder why we didn't just build a new cabin somewhere else???? Well, we thought about that possibility but the existing cabin sat on the only south facing slope on our property and it was the perfect spot. Plus, instead of building a new place, we were just adding to the old place, right? Best laid plans....and all that.

Needless to say, we decided not to put our little old cabin back on our brand new foundation so.....it found a new home at the end of the driveway not to far from the new building site. After all, this old cabin would be our home until we finish the new cabin so now all we needed to apply was a little tender, loving care.
As a result of our indecision, we now have an odd shaped foundation, but look on the bright side.....It makes for an interesting floorplan. We worked on the foundation in June, laying pex tubing for radiant floor heat and moved the addition on the new foundation in July, and laid 800 feet of water line in a trench from the spring to the house.
The rest of the summer was spent working on our "guest" cabin, setting up our saw mill, filling in the water line trench, and developing our water source. We laid 800 feet of 2 inch water line from the spring to the building site and buried about half the line before the snow fell. We would have to wait until next year to get our 500 gallon cistern buried.

Maggie came home from Denver and we spent our first Christmas on the property together. Jeff and Maggie went Christmas tree hunting and came back with a wonderful tree for our little cabin.
